PNP immigration results for December 2021 in Canada
A look back at the Provincial Nominee Program updates from across the country from the previous month.
During the month of December, Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) sent out over 3,000 invitations to apply for provincial nomination.
With the exception of Nunavut and Quebec, which have their own immigration programs, nearly every Canadian province and territory has its own PNP. The ability for provincial governments to select immigration candidates who satisfy their local labor market needs and regulate the regional settling of the immigrant population within their authority is made possible by having their own immigration programs. Each province sets its own standards for determining which foreign employees are eligible for permanent residence in Canada under its own PNP.
The PNP complements federal immigration programs and enables Canadian provinces to play a key role in the selection of immigrants.
Since its launch in 1998, the PNP has become the second main route to permanent residence in Canada. Between now and 2023, PNPs alone are expected to result in more than 80,000 immigrants per year being admitted as permanent residents.
Ontario
On December 7, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) sent invitations to 1,186 immigration aspirants who had submitted profiles to the EOI system.
Under Ontario’s Employer Job Offer category, the invited candidates may be eligible for one of three streams: Foreign Worker, International Student, or In-Demand Skills. Candidates who had applied for the Regional Immigration Pilot received some of the invitations.
British Columbia
British Columbia staged five drawings in the last month, inviting 632 people to apply for a provincial nomination via the Express Entry British Columbia and Skills Immigration streams.
Manitoba
This month, the province of Manitoba held three draws, one each for Skilled Workers in Manitoba, International Education Stream, and Skilled Workers Overseas. The draws took place on December 2, 16, and 30, respectively. A total of 1,180 Letters of Advice to Apply were given by the province, with 208 going to Express Entry candidates.
Prince Edward Island
on December 16, Prince Edward Island held a pre-scheduled draw and issued a combined 125 invitations to immigration candidates. Most of the invitations, were issued to Express Entry and Labour Impact candidates. The remaining 11 invitations went to Business Impact candidates who had a minimum point of 67. Prince Edward Island invited a total of 1,854 PNP candidates in 2021.
