By July 2021, Canada welcomed about 40,000 immigrants this year.
Canada has welcomed nearly 184,000 new permanent residents in 2021
According to Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino, Canada is on track to welcome 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021.
The federal government confirmed in a new interview with Reuters that Canada received roughly 39,500 new immigrants in July, up from 35,700 in June.
Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023 aims to accept 401,000 new immigrants per year. This annual objective was established at 341,000 newcomers prior to coronavirus epidemic.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is pursuing the most ambitious immigration plan in Canadian history, with the goal of welcoming more newcomers to help the country recover from the COVID crisis. So far this year, Canada has welcomed around 184,000 newcomers.
It will be difficult to admit this quantity on a monthly basis by the end of 2021, but it is possible. Prior to the epidemic, Canada received 25,000 to 35,000 new immigrants every month on average.
IRCC has a number of factors working in its favor that will allow it to meet or exceed its levels objective by the end of the year.
First, following the lifting of travel restrictions on June 21st, an additional 23,000 Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) holders are now eligible to relocate to Canada.
In addition, anyone who has just been authorized for permanent residency in Canada is now free to move to Canada.
Six new permanent residency streams were launched in May for international student graduates and essential workers living in Canada to become immigrants. IRCC hopes to process 40,000 of these applications by the end of 2021.
Last but not least, IRCC has been holding major Express Entry draws throughout 2020 and this year as it prioritizes Canadian Experience Class candidates since some 90 per cent of them are living in Canada. IRCC should complete the permanent residence landing process of a significant number of such candidates by the end of 2021.
